Clarence “Sonny” Guthrey, 89, of Corning, passed away January 4, 2023.

Mr. Guthrey was born on November 2, 1933. Known to his friends as Sonny and by also his CB handle, “Cockleburr”, he was a farmer in the Heelstring community. He held the title of Honorary Mayor of Heelstring. In 2012, he and his family were among the first farms recognized with the Arkansas Century Farm Program award having settled the land in 1892.

On April 2, 1953, he married, Estel Huddleston. Other survivors include his sons, Dick (Janna) Guthrey of Pocahontas and Carl (Kathy) Guthrey of Jonesboro; grandsons Michael (Hannah) Guthrey of Jonesboro and Dr. Caleb (Jordan) Guthrey of Little Rock; granddaughter Michelle Guthrey Tracy; great-granddaughters Lauryn Ellie Guthrey and Logan Brooke Guthrey; and nieces and nephews, Theresa Hurst, Cheryl Parker, Cindy Williams, Scott Guthrey, and Joey Guthrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Firgus William Guthrey and Lela L. Morgan Guthrey and brother Bud Guthrey.

Visitation will be held Saturday January 7, 2023 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Roger Hovis officiating. Burial will be at Corning Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons Caleb and Michael Guthrey, nephew Scott Guthrey, Jerry Yancy, Fred Wheeler, and Dennis Woolard. Honorary pallbearers are Burton Eddington and David Wilson.
