Photos courtesy/3A-2 Regional Tournament 2023 The Corning Bobcats and Lady Bobcats both had fruitful seasons and each team punched tickets to Regionals. The Corning teams made the trip to Mountain View for the first round of the 2-3A Regional Tournament.

Corning boy’s basketball coach Wes Couch said he was proud of his team’s effort in a disappointing 74-72 overtime loss to Newport in in 3A-2 regional game in Mountain View last week, which ended the Bobcats’ season.

The Corning Lady Bobcats ended their season with a 24-7 record and a District Runner-up title when Manila defeated Corning; 58-46 on Thursday, Feb. 16. But the girls aren’t finished. Wednesday, Feb. 22 the Lady Cats will face the Mountain View Lady Yellow Jackets in Regional play. Tip off is at 4 p.m. The winner of this match up will play the winner of the Melbourne vs. Rivercrest game on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
Corning will face host Newport in a 3A-2 Regional quarterfinal high school boys basketball game Thursday night in Mountain View. The Bobcats are 1410, the Greyhounds 13-11.

SEARCY, Ark., - Harding University’s Jeff Morgan, a 1984 graduate of Corning High School, will retire as head men’s basketball coach at the end of the 2022-23 season but will continue serving as the University’s athletic director. Morgan is in his 30th season as head coach at Harding and is the winningest coach in program history with 448 victories. He ranks fourth in career victories among coaches at Arkansas colleges, trailing only Don Dyer (601), Bill Vining (520) and Cliff Garrison (463).

In the words of Coach Wes Couch, the Corning Bobcats came to play Thursday, Feb. 9 in their last home game of the season against the Rivercrest Colts.
The Bobcats fell to defending 3A state champion Osceola 68-42 on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in a district semifinal which had no bearing on whether the team advanced in post-season play.

The Corning Lady Bobcats played the Rivercrest Lady Colts on Thursday, Feb. 9 at home. The game was a high note especially for the seniors on the team as they earned a conference win in their last home game. At the end of the first quarter, Corning was ahead 23-15. At the half Corning maintained the lead; 4128. The Lady Bobcats clinched the win with a final score of 73-58. The win improved their record 22-6.
