High School tennis team starting practice
Any high school student interested in playing tennis should report to the Corning tennis courts on August 4 at 4 p.m. for practice. For more information email shelley.smith@corning. k12.ar.us. All athletes must have a current physical to participate.

Bobcat Football to hold benefit golf tournament
The Corning Bobcat Football team will hold the Grip It & Rip It Benefit Golf Tournament on July 19. This is a 4-man scramble. There will be a 50/50 raffle, paid flights and a $100 hole sponsor. The cost will be $350 if sponsoring a team and hole. The tournament will be held at the Victory Lake Golf Course with registration starting at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. For more information contact Trevor Barajas at 870-323-0580 or Farrell Shelton at 636-575-7390.
4-H Members compete in Clay County O-Rama
4-H O-Rama provides 4-H members with the opportunity to compare the skills they have gained with those of other members and with their own previous performances. 4-H club members from Corning, Piggott and Rector competed. This year’s Clay County 4-H O’Rama placings were: Bait Casting & Sportfishing- Juniors: 1st place- Kyle Golden, 2nd place- Kade McKinney, 3rd place- Samuel Jolly, 4th place- Charlie Swint. Seniors: 1st place- Thyme Spence, 2nd place-Lake Brown. Bicycle- Juniors: 1st place- Kyle Golden, 2nd place- Emma Golden, 3rd place- Emma Wilson, 4th place- Jaxon Wilson. Gun Safety-BB Gun- Juniors: 1st place- Kade McKinney, 2nd place- Charlie Swint, 3rd place- Ridge Brown, 4th place-Grayson Spence. Seniors: 1st place- Lake Brown, 2nd place- Thyme Spence. Demolition derby is a smash hit
The demolition derby held on June 7 was a success. The winners were Scott Wright, first place; Austin Seal, second place; and Jake Smart, third place. The next derby is scheduled for July 5 at the Clay County fairgounds. The peewee division starts at 6:30 p.m. and the derby will be at 7 p.m. Entry at the gate is $10 with pit passes at $20.
