Corning eSports gamers Carson Dowdy and Jayce Couch punched a ticket to the elite 8 of the NBA2K23 eSports playoffs. Each won three rounds in the playoffs and faced off against each other on Wednesday, April 19. Dowdy won two games to advance in the playoffs with Couch to return next year.
Senior Day for the Lady Bobcats was Thursday, April 20 at 4:15 p.m. Seniors Jayden Brickley, Madison Vanderberg and Morgan McCallister were presented plaques and softballs signed by teammates by Coach Jerry Songer in recognition of their dedication to the team and the game of softball. Following the ceremony the Lady Bobcats faced the Pocahontas Lady Redskins.
The Lady Bobcats cruised straight to Regionals beating Piggott 12-2 on Monday, April 24 in Districts held at Piggott. The Corning offense was fired up in the 1st inning with Lyla Arnold singling on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring 2 runs.
The Corning Lady Bobcats lost to the Manila Lady Lions by a score of 12-2 on Wednesday, April 19 as they struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Manila. The loss was set in motion in the 1st inning when Manila scored on a fielder’s choice groundout, a walk, and an error.
Addison George helped lead the Lady Bobcats with 4 hits to defeat Piggott; 21-11 on Tuesday, April 18. George singled in the 1st, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th inning.
Senior Day ceremonies for five seniors on the Corning Bobcat baseball team was Tuesday, April 18 at 3:45 p.m. prior to a game against the Marmaduke Greyhounds at 4 p.m. Graduating seniors, Landon Lucas, Eli Mason, Jax McGrew, John Swint and Jackson Davis received plaques to honor their achievement from Coach Kyle George.
It was a tough game for the Lady Bobcats when they went scoreless against Gosnell in a home game on Thursday, April 13 losing by a score of 9-0. The Lady Pirates did not commit a single error during game play. A single by Corning’s Kenlie Watson was a bright spot in the first inning.
The Corning Boys Basketball first annual golf tournament was held on Saturday, April 8 at 8 a.m. at the Victory Lake Golf Course. Corning Boy’s Basketball Coach Wes Couch said the Four Man Scramble was a huge success. There were 17 teams of 4 players that engaged in the tournament. Players enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks sold during the fundraiser to benefit the basketball team, as well as a contest to giveaway a putter won by Josh Breeds. An auction of donated golf items was held afterwards to further procure funds for the basketball program.
With the game tied 4-4 at the bottom of the fifth inning, the Corning Lady Bobcats defeated Rivercrest on their home turf, Tuesday, April 4 in dramatic fashion thanks to a walk-off single by Lyla Arnold. Arnold singled on a 2-2 count, scoring 1 run.
