1st annual Victory Lake Home Run Derby held
The first annual Victory Lake Home Run Derby was held on Saturday, June 10 at the Victory Lake Ball Complex. Derby organizer Logan Carpenter stated there was a great turnout for the younger age group competitions. There were 20 kids entered into the competition with 15 in the 7-9 boys and 5 in the adult age range. He said there were some good hitters and many quick boys and girls that had a blast helping chase the ball. Carpenter said he appreciated all the vendors and those who helped during the event; particularly 1st Choice Home Care. The awards were created by Logan Lepard. The derby raised $190 for Corning Baseball and Softball Leagues.
From fishing to golf, Saturday was fun for all ages
Saturday morning, June 10 in Corning was the place to be with several activities for all age groups. Beginning at 7 a.m.
AGFC fishing derby off the hook
Young anglers had a ‘reely’ good day last Saturday, June 10 as area families brought their fishing poles down to the fishing hole at William H. Donham State Fish Hatchery in Corning from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. for the annual fishing derby. The sounds of children’s laughter and excitement could be heard around the pond as they reeled in their catches. It was a joyful morning of angling and family time accompanied by beautiful weather. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission held their annual hatchery fishing derbies on Saturday, June 10 at all four of the agency’s warm water fish hatcheries. These derbies are for youth 18-years and younger and their families who would like to fish alongside them.

Lady Bobcats host two-day team camp
Corning High School hosted a two-day girls’ basketball camp for senior and junior high teams on Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6 at the Corning High School gymnasium. Teams from Bay, Riverside, Crowley’s Ridge Academy, Marmaduke, and Maynard attended the camp. The games consisted of two 15 minute halves with a three-minute half time.

Bobcats compete at Harding Team Camps
Corning Bobcat basketball players are honing their skills over the summer. The Corning Bobcats and Jr. Bobcat team participated in the Harding Team Camp at Harding University. The Bobcats competed in the camp last week while the Jr. Bobcats attended Session 2 this week.

Corning trap squads advance to State
Corning trap teams participated in the AYSSP Youth Shooting Sports East Regional Tournament at the Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Arkansas last weekend. The Junior Division competition was held on Friday, May 12 with the Senior Division competition occurring on Saturday, May 13.

AYSSP Format Invitational Trap Shoot held
The Black River Trap & Skeet Club hosted the Invitational AYSSP 2023 last weekend. Jayden Dalton won the Senior Division Champion of Champions after a shot off with 4 more 50/50 shooters (Seth Smith, Wyatt Murray, Brayden Tarantino and Blaine West).
Lady Bobcats fall to Melbourne in Regionals
The Lady Bobcats traveled to Tuckerman to face the Melbourne Lady Bulldogs in Regionals on Thursday, May 4. The Lady Cats fell behind early and couldn’t rebound in a 16-1 loss. Corning struggled to contain the Lady Bulldog’s high-powered offense, giving up 16 runs.
