I have a great new recipe which must be fail-proof as I have managed to successfully turn it out about five times. It is called Twinkie Dessert and I have to dirtyup only one mixing bowl and one wooden spoon to make it...that’s the best part. The second best part is the final product that is refreshing and easy to eat.

Social trust . . .

Every four years, the National Intelligence Council provides a forecast of the world for the next 20 years. In March 2021, they released the latest National Intelligence Forecast. As we could have predicted, the next 20 years looks turbulent. It appears we are living in the best of times, and we need to enjoy our way of life while we can. The future of the world will hinge on whether we allow technology and social media to unite us or divide us. So far as a society we are failing in the area of unification. The freedom that the internet allows has spurred some to create division and hate. And I don’t think many of us want to know the evils going on behind the scenes or underground on the World Wide Web.

I’ve had a Red Cross life saving course...and passed, but the other night was the first time I ever tried to apply my life-saving skills. I failed the test...I’m not worth a toot! If the instructor could have seen me in action, he would call-in my certificate of achievement. It was that bad.

Whew...did we ever have a 4th of July celebration. It was fun, even Friday afternoon when a co-worker and I scrubbed the popcorn popper and got that stand all ready for action bright and early Saturday morning...believe it or not, there is something about all the goings-on that creates a popcorn appetite for some people at nine o’clock in the morning...at midnight, too! If it had to rain, it couldn’t have come at a better time because seems like the early afternoon hours are always sort of slack before people begin gathering for the entertainment and the Miss Independence pageants.

A Beginning and an End

This coming Monday, we will celebrate the birth of our nation. Two hundred forty- six years ago the greatest country in the world came into being. Sadly, the country we grew up in, honored and loved, is leaving us. I could write an entire page on my reasons for believing this, but why? Those who agree already know; those who don’t would not be convinced.

Different people from different regions have different ideas about what is history and what should be discarded. Clay Countians can’t seem to make up their mind...they will marvel at antique automobiles and farm machinery, spend mone they sometimes can’t afford for someone else’s old furniture, yet want every building showing signs of being old disposed of. I don’t understand it. I tend to agree with Bill Hancock of Knobel, who maintains that “anything can be renovated.” He backs his argument by telling folks to take a look at his store building in Knobel which is the old Sellmeyer building. It was in a sad, neglected state for a number of years, but with renovation has become a source of pride for the people of Knobel who are glad to have such a nice, big, brick building in their town. Around town, just let a
