RAMBLING VINES

and don’t get positive results on every request. That’s the way it is at a log of meetings… people arrive with their arguing britches on and say a lot of things they can’t mean and get mad if you ever remind them that they said such a thing. Corning, and all other small towns, have enough problems when everyone works together… pulling in opposite directions will never work… even with Revenue Sharing rolling in! I say, let’s knuckle down, quit fretting over what we don’t have and make the most of all the opportunities which abound us right here in good ole Corning, Arkansas.

I had to go back to the doctor this past week and finally, I think we have a handle on what some of my allergies are that keep me broken out so much of the time… the main one being dry skin that comes with the ageing process. Can’t do much about that, but with this new medication, I am not so uncomfortable all the time and not afraid to get in a crowd… I tell you right now when I had to scratch, I had to scratch and that proved to be a little embarrassing a few times and this has been going on since Labor Day, with some times worse than others.

Corning Bobcats, 1915…

Corning Bobcats had arrived in 1913 when Harvey Haley became superintendent of the new fouryear High School and put a football 11 in the field. Decreased enrollment during World War One reduced football material to the point of extinction and the sport was not resurrected until E.P. Ennis became superintendent in 1929 in an enlarged building with room for High School students. During the Alfred Maddux years in the twenties, baseball was the official athlectic activity and he is posed with the team he coached, on the North side of the old school house.

Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 Celebrating the completion of their new band stand, the Corning Military Band of the first decade of the Twentieth Century posed on the Court Square lawn while the afternoon gathering of local fans took over the stand and filled it to capacity. Sunday afternoon practice sessions and concerts helped pass away the dull Sunday afternoon hours.

*The Corning Dixie plant of the Wisconsin Pearl Button Company is scheduled to resume operations next Wednesday, with about 50 men employed, according to J.N. Hughes, the company’s local manager. Hughes said that the local plant has about 300 tones of mussel shells on hand.
