For your reading enjoyment, we continue to publish Rambling Vines by the late Marylea Vines as she recalls events and names of Corning folks from many years ago. We are currently in the year 1989 Has anyone else noticed the pretty pink roses that line both sides of the wide driveway leading into senior citizen and low-income apartments on Success Street? I’ve been wanting them to do some landscaping ever since the apartments were completed and was pleased to see the many blooming rose bushes… even though the ditch between the street and the apartment yard needs attention.

Small towns are known for friendly folk who are willing to help out a neighbor. I found this to be true when I walked into Fred Ort’s insurance office in Piggott last Friday and was greeted by a tall gentleman with a ready smile who asked, “How can I help you?” I replied, “I’m looking for Fred Ort.” He threw up his arms, grinned and said, “You’ve found him!” For the next hour this gentleman answered all my questions concerning the Piggott 4th of July Picnic and provided the basic financials for their 2023 picnic.

Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 From archieves October 25, 1973 Finding a cotton picker at work in the fields was no “big deal” on Monday of this week as farmers are taking every advantage of the perfect harvesting weather and getting their crops out of the fields as quickly as possible. This picture was made at the cotton being farmed by the Phelan Brothers on Route One in New Home (Blue) community.
