At Tribble’s Grooming and Boarding, wagging tails, pampered paws and berry-scented snouts are all in a day’s work. Nestled in the heart of Corning, this business is the brainchild of Alexis Tribble — a lifelong animal lover whose roots in grooming run as deep as her affection for four-legged friends.
An iconic Corning landmark was torn down on April 21. The former Woods Department Store, which has been located at 321 Southwest First Street for the last 85 years, will no longer be seen when crossing the railroad on US 62 into downtown Corning. The Woods family ran their business there for around 60 years until Woods Department Store closed in the early 2000s. The building was purchased by Leigh Ramer Smith on September 22, 2005, who opened Second Choice Consignment on the first floor which stayed in business for around a decade.
The Corning Bobcat boys basketball held a Golf Scramble on April 19. The tournament was deemed a huge success according to the organizers. They would like to thank the participants and all the sponsors that helped make it possible.

Ryan Carter was recently awarded the NEARA Award for Exemplary Archival Research for his research paper titled “The Assassination of Black Pioneer ‘Old Jim’ Hanover and the Struggle for Justice in the Upper White River District.” His paper tells the story of “Old Jim’s” life, the tragedy of his death, and the struggle to secure justice for is brutal murder and that of others in the Freedman’s Bureau Upper White River District.

Torrential rains from April 4 through 6 sent floodwaters surging across Clay County, submerging roads, stranding vehicles and forcing closures throughout the region.
