Carter receives award for research paper

Ryan Carter was recently awarded the NEARA Award for Exemplary Archival Research for his research paper titled “The Assassination of Black Pioneer ‘Old Jim’ Hanover and the Struggle for Justice in the Upper White River District.” His paper tells the story of “Old Jim’s” life, the tragedy of his death, and the struggle to secure justice for is brutal murder and that of others in the Freedman’s Bureau Upper White River District.

Floodwaters surge through Clay County, prompting swift response from officials

Torrential rains from April 4 through 6 sent floodwaters surging across Clay County, submerging roads, stranding vehicles and forcing closures throughout the region. But thanks to the coordinated response of city and county officials, as well as emergency crews, what could have been a disaster was met with preparation, calm and strength.
