Bobcats squeak by Maynard in WBU Tournament

The eight seeded Corning Bobcats edged the nine seeded Maynard Tigers 61-60 in a hard fought “barn burner” in the first round of the 65th WBU High School Tournament at Williams Baptist University, Tuesday, Dec. 3. Seth Smith started the scoring right off the beginning jump with a three-pointer for Corning but Denton Singley answered with a bucket for Maynard. A Reid McMasters put back and a Smith jump shot stretched the Bobcat lead to 7-2. But Maynard would hang tough and by the end of the first quarter the Tigers had cut the lead to 1716.

2024 Chamber Christmas Banquet

The Corning Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2024 Chamber Christmas Banquet on Tuesday, December 10, at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Tickets are $25 each. The event will feature a “Black and Gold Christmas” table decorating contest, door prizes, and Bingo gifts. Participants can decorate tables after 11:00 a.m., with judging completed by 4:30 p.m.

Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team Little Rock Trip

On October 21st, the Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team participants from Corning, Piggott and Rector High Schools toured the State Capitol in Little Rock joined by Arkansas State Representative Jeremy Wooldridge. Then, at the 4-H Center in Ferndale, they attended a Real Colors personality session to understand themselves and others with Carrie Stark while discussing their service-learning project with Clay County Extension agent Christin Holmes.
