Parade Chairman D.J. Herzog has chosen J.H. Ermert as Grand Marshal of Growing Corning Together’s July 4th Parade. He was chosen last year to hold this title, but due to an illness he was unable to attend the event. At approximately 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, the Corning Fire Department responded to a diesel tank fire located on a county road behind Farm Service. The tank held several thousand gallons of diesel fuel, posing a significant hazard.
The Corning Bobcat Football team will hold the Grip It & Rip It Benefit Golf Tournament on July 19. This is a 4-man scramble. There will be a 50/50 raffle, paid flights and a $100 hole sponsor. The cost will be $350 if sponsoring a team and hole. The Corning Police Department has received a donated thermal and night vision FLIR monocular from the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
On May 29 at approximately 4:43 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a residence located at 822 Ferguson Road in Corning.
On May 22, a new Facebook page called “Corning 4th of July Celebration” was created by Growing Corning Together, where they posted a video announcing that the nonprofit was going to revive and host the annual 4th of July Homecoming Picnic. This announcement comes after the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce, who has held this event since 1942 published in the January 15 edition of the Clay County Courier that they would no longer be hosting the event citing the difficulty of finding volunteers and, “The rising costs of organizing such events, coupled with the challenges of people taking vacations, school schedules and the natural progression of our community aging, have made it increasingly difficult to sustain these traditions.”
Corning Bobcat baseball members Reid McMasters and Ty Price were recently selected for the 2025 2A All State team by the Arkansas Activities Association.
The 2025 Bobcat Alumni basketball games were a slam dunk, celebrating the school’s rich basketball legacy. Held at Bobcat Gymnasium, the event brought together former Bobcat players from both the men’s and women’s programs for an afternoon of high-energy matchups, nostalgia and community pride.
Hunters interested in pursuing Arkansas’s largest big game animal can apply for a limited hunting permit draw from 8 a.m. May 1 through 11:59 p.m. June 1. Applications will be available at the AGFC’s licensing site (www.agfc.com/license) under the “Special Hunt Applications” tab.
