Alice Veneta Stevens Amick passed away on August 23, 2023 at the age of ninety nine years, nine months. Veneta was born to Charles Edward and Martha Miranda Victoria Clark Stevens on November 27, 1923 at Beech Grove, Greene County, Arkansas. Veneta was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother, caring sister, and friend. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Veneta was baptized at an early age and faithfully followed the teachings of Christ throughout her life.

JoAnn Brashers, 92, of Corning, AR., passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Ms. Brashers was born in McAllen, TX., on October 12, 1930. She was a retired realtor. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a member of First Christian Church in Corning.

Fair parade registration begins

The annual Clay County Fair Parade is slated for Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. with parade entries being accepted now. The parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
