Sheriff’s Dept. makes arrests

On Monday April 15, 2024 at approximately 3:20 P.M., the Clay County Sheriff’s Department arrested 38 year-old, Brian J. Crosskno of Kennett on Warren Street in St. Francis. Mr. Crosskno had been making threats and harassing a resident on Warren Street since at least April 4th. The Sheriff’s Department had obtained three felony warrants on the subject. Crosskno was back at the residence making threats when deputies arrived and took him into custody. He is currently in the Clay County Detention Center on a $20,000.00 cash only bond. He is charged with Criminal Mischief-1ST Degree/ Property of Another Value $500 or More, Terroristic Threatening-1st Degree/Threatens Physical Injury, Burglary, Residential, Possession of Sch I or II LT 2GM, Tampering with Physical Evidence.

ARDOT announces plans for Corning Y project

The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced its plans to proceed with three Y intersection projects in the Fall of 2024; the first to be at the Corning Y. Shane Wood, District 10 Engineer explained, “We plan on starting that this fall. We are currently working up cost estimates for all three sites. One being Corning, one being the Knobel Y, and the other being the Beech Grove Y.”

BRTC hosts Randolph County Classic

POCAHONTAS, AR — Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted the Randolph County Classic on its Pocahontas campus. Approximately 200 area students attended the event and 16 FFA organizations participated in the contest. Area schools that participated were Pocahontas, Rural Special, Mountain Home, Marmaduke, Sloan Hendrix, Green County Tech, Paragould, Riverside, Maynard, Brookland, Southside Batesville, Melbourne, Batesville, Corning, Rector, and Piggott. Embryology Peeps . . .

Mrs. Burkheart’s students in KC walked into their classroom on Monday morning, April 15 to have five newly hatched baby chicks waiting to meet them. That afternoon two more chicks hatched in the classroom. As of Monday, there were seven eggs unhatched, six which look viable when candled the previous week by Clay County Extension Agent Stewart Runsick.
