G/T referral requests sought

The Corning School District Gifted and Talented Program is currently seeking referrals for students in grades 3-11. Referred students must display high intellectual ability, task commitment, self-motivation and creative ability. Corning PD promotes two officers

Two Corning police officers received a promotion to the rank of Corporal in an announcement made Wednesday, April 23, 2024 by Police Chief Blaine McClung. Chief McClung pronounced Officer David Leach and School Resource Officer (SRO) Micayla McClung were each promoted to Corporal due to their general law enforcement experience along with their strong work ethic and passion for the job.

Community Foundation Awards Eight Grants to Local Nonprofits

Pocahontas, Ark. – North Delta Community Foundation, an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation, announced $15,000 in Giving Tree grants for nonprofits in Clay, Lawrence and Randolph counties. “Since our affiliate was formed in 2020, we have awarded nearly $50,000 in grants to support projects and programs working to address the greatest needs in our communities,” said Melody Rainwater, executive director of the North Delta affiliate. “Our local nonprofits work tirelessly to serve our communities and we are proud to support their efforts through our grantmaking.”

Sheriff’s Dept. makes arrests

On Monday April 15, 2024 at approximately 3:20 P.M., the Clay County Sheriff’s Department arrested 38 year-old, Brian J. Crosskno of Kennett on Warren Street in St. Francis. Mr. Crosskno had been making threats and harassing a resident on Warren Street since at least April 4th. The Sheriff’s Department had obtained three felony warrants on the subject. Crosskno was back at the residence making threats when deputies arrived and took him into custody. He is currently in the Clay County Detention Center on a $20,000.00 cash only bond. He is charged with Criminal Mischief-1ST Degree/ Property of Another Value $500 or More, Terroristic Threatening-1st Degree/Threatens Physical Injury, Burglary, Residential, Possession of Sch I or II LT 2GM, Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Arkansas net farm income decline projected to continue in 2024

Arkansas’ 2024 net farm income is expected to fall $0.5 billion from 2023 levels, according to a report Tuesday from the Rural & Farm Finance Policy Analysis Center. The “Spring 2024 Arkansas Farm Income Report” has two Arkansas authors, Hunter Biram and Ryan Loy, both extension economists for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
