Brandon Presley & Chris Jones Join Dirt Road Democrats PAC, Launch 2024Programming to Help Democrats Compete and Win In Tough Places

CMS Chess Champions

Corning Middle School invited all chess participants from earlier in the year to play in an end of the year chess tournament. Bentley Weaver was named champion, Chase Woods was runner-up, and Jace Morrow received third place honors.

CHS holds 2024 Commencement

Fresh-faced men and women clothed in caps and gowns entered the Bobcat gymnasium in the presence of their support systems; their families, friends, teachers and administrators. On Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 3 p.m., in what was the culmination of their K-12 educational journey; their high school graduation. They walked into the gym for the last time as high school students and exited as young adults ready for the next phase of their lives. Corning High School presented 62 diplomas to the Class of 2024 with hopes for bright futures and dreams to be fulfilled.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On May 8, 2024 officers with the Corning Police Department made a traffic stop on Jones Street due to the driver driving on a suspended drivers license. During the stop, officers learned that the driver was wanted out of Randolph County. The driver was then placed into custody to be transported to the jail. When the officers attempted to search the suspect he then turned and ran away from the scene. The suspect was then apprehended. 39-year-old Andrew Curtis was booked into the Clay County Detention Center on the following charges: Driving on a Suspended License, Felony Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance, and 3rd Degree Escape.
