Aurora Borealis makes rare appearance over NEA

For the second time in a month, residents of Northeast Arkansas were looking skyward to see a rare celestial event. On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse occurred over the state with Corning in the pathway. On Friday, May 10, 2024, a powerful geomagnetic storm allowed sky gazers in Arkansas to see the Northern Lights. The major disturbance in Earth’s magnetic field caused by sunspots on the Sun enabled the aurora to be visible much further south than usual.

Sheriff Dept. makes arrests

On May 6, 2024 at approximately 3:40 P.M., the Clay County Sheriff’s Dept. observed some suspicious activity at 1552 C.R. 481. The Sheriff’s office knew the subject at the residence was on parole. The Sheriff’s Dept. was able to make contact with the subject’s Parole Officer, and he advised the deputy to conduct a search of the residence. After the search, 59-year-old Randy Ford was taken into custody, and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. He was booked in on the following charges: Possession of SCH I or II GT 2GM BT 10 GM, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

June 5, 2014 If you were counting heads of those attending the first session of Corning Public Library’s FIZZ BOOM READ 2014 program, June 3, you would have counted 119 youngsters packed into the special Children’s Reading Room. Along with these, 49 adults were present for this “standing room only” event that featured Magician Scott Davis.
