Sheriff Dept. makes arrests

On Monday June 17, 2024, at approximately 6:42 A.M., a deputy got a phone call about a truck at the boat ramp in St. Francis with all the windows broken out. The deputy on his way to St. Francis met a vehicle on U.S. 62 that had damage to the driver side of the vehicle. A traffic stop was made after the vehicle turned south on Hwy. 139 east of Piggott. When the deputy came in contact with the occupants, he discovered three of the occupants were covered in mud. After questioning them, the occupants said they had been stuck. When they pushed the vehicle out, they had got covered in mud. At this time the deputy got another call about a 4-wheeler left running in a fence row unoccupied on CR 352 west of St. Francis. The deputy released the subjects to respond to the calls he had already received. When the deputy arrived at the boat ramp in St. Francis, he came in contact with the owner of the vehicle. The owner had been fishing down river, and heard his truck being damaged. The deputy took the information from the owner and told him he would be back in touch. Deputies then went to where the 4-wheeler was on CR 352. After finding out who owned the 4-wheeler, a deputy went to a residence on CR 347 to speak to the owner to determine if the 4-wheeler was stolen. When the deputy made contact with the owner, he discovered his 4-wheeler was missing. During this time other information and complaints about vandalism have been received by the Sheriff’s Department. The deputies realized that the individuals that had been stopped on Hwy. 139 earlier were probably involved in these incidents. The Sheriffs Department made contact with the individuals and interviewed them at the Rector Police Department. The Sheriff’s Department took reports all morning from residents of vandalism from Chalk Bluff, St. Francis, and CR 481 between Greenway and Rector. After interviewing the subjects, they were taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. 19-year-old Bryor

4th of July parade lineup and route planned

D.J. Herzog, Parade Chairman has been working hard to ensure that the 2024 4th of July Parade is an enjoyable event for parade goers. Participants of the Fourth of July Homecoming Parade are to get in line and be ready to make their way from Southwest Second Street to Wynn Park past spectators who line the streets. This is Corning’s year for politicians to participate in the parade. Herzog explained that politicians, beauty pageant contestants and all those riding in vehicles will be providing their own rides. He is expecting great participation from residents on floats, ATVs and bicycles, in antique cars and those dressed as clowns. Many decorated vehicles, horses and farm tractors and implements are expected to be shown.
