Corning Police arrested a Trumann man Sept. 12 after he fled officers while being taken into custody on active warrants.

The Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, Sept. 15 at the Clay County Courthouse in Piggott with justices Dennis Haines, David Hatcher, Patrick Patterson, Brad Greene, Randy Kingston, Neal Smith and Jody Henderson present. Justices George Lowe and David Cagle were absent. Reading of the previous month’s meeting was suspended.

For more than three decades, Paige Catt devoted her career to education, teaching primarily at Park Elementary before retiring after 30 years in the classroom. A second- grade teacher for most of her career, she also taught kindergarten, even while undergoing treatment for breast cancer in 2013. That same year, she was named Corning School District’s first Teacher of the Year, and in 2018 she was honored with KAIT’s Great Acts of Kindness award.

Brandon and Jessica Russom, lifelong residents of Corning, are dedicated to family, faith and community. Brandon, a 1995 Corning High School graduate, farms full time, while Jessica, a 2000 CHS graduate, is in her 21st year as a special education teacher at Park Elementary. Together they have three children; Emma, Ellie and Brady, and are looking forward to welcoming their first grandchild in November.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported three separate incidents that led to arrests in Piggott, Marmaduke and Reyno.

Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team members showcased their talents and dedication during Youth Day at the Clay County Fair. Twenty-one youth leaders volunteered at the fairgrounds, partnering with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum to present an interactive program titled “4-H Reel into Arkansas Sport Fishing.”
The September Corning Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon was called to order by Pres. Rhonda Sollis at Market 602 on September 11. Pres. Sollis opened the meeting by introducing the guest speaker, Alan Vaughn, Director of the Clay County Office of Emergency Management.
