Norma Jean Hartwig Haag, a 1952 Corning High School graduate and a resident of St. Louis, sent three photos for Courier readers to enjoy. One photo is of her eighth grade class at the Dell School. The school year was 19471948. She recalled that she and Dale Ahrent were the only students to continue on to Corning High School.
JONESBORO – The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the institutional accrediting body for Arkansas State University, has notified Chancellor Todd Shields of its decision to accept the visiting team’s report on A-State, thereby reaffirming the institution’s accreditation. The HLC team visited the campus for a comprehensive review in April.
The Northeast Arkansas Intermodal Authority is in the process of developing an Economic Development Strategic Plan to guide its efforts in fostering regional economic development within its service area for the next five years. Clay County Assessor, Tracy Gurley recently announced that Mollie Thompson is one of the 2023-2024 recipients of the eighteenth annual Borden-McClendon Scholarship. The Borden-McClendon Scholarship is comprised of two $1,000 scholarships given away each year by the Arkansas Assessor’s Association to an employee, child of an employee, grandchild or great-grandchild of an assessor’s office employee in the State of Arkansas.

Back to School supplies and clothing can be financially stressful for families as they prepare their children for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual Arkansas Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, and continue until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 to help alleviate back to school expenses. The sales tax exemption applies to single articles, and is not based on the overall cost of everything purchased.
