HPMEC celebrates silver anniversary

The Hemingway- Pfeiffer Museum celebrated its 25th anniversary with the community of Piggott on July 4, participating in the town’s Independence Day celebration. On Saturday, Aug. 10, the museum followed up their celebration with a formal banquet held at the Sugar Creek Country Club. The banquet was 1920s themed and among those in attendance were supporters and participants from the 25 year history of the museum.

Nickason awarded Clay Co. Fair Assoc. Scholarship

The Clay County Fair Association awarded Maggie Nickason a $250 scholarship at their August meeting. Maggie is the daughter of Wayne and Kelli Nickason of Corning, AR. Maggie has served as a member of the Junior Fair Board for two years. Maggie will be attending UCA in Conway, AR this fall and majoring in psychology. When asked what her favorite fair memories are, she replied “ Honestly all of them, but I definitely loved going to convention.”

Rollover crash claims four lives

The Arkansas State Police has reported a 2004 Cadillac Escalade driven by 27-year-old Jordan Rainwater was traveling southbound on Clay County Road 232 at 12 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2 when it approached a left hand curve. Rainwater attempted to negotiate the curve and failed to do so properly causing the SUV to leave the south side of the road. Upon leaving the road, the Cadillac began to rollover and the passenger side of the vehicle collided with a ditch embankment. The Escalade came to a final rest upside down in the ditch submerged in a body of water.
