Mrs. Lindsey’s counseling classes at Park Elementary are commemorating Dot Day during the month of September in honor of International Dot Day that was Friday, September 15. Dot Day is celebrated around the world to commend creativity, collaboration, and courage. It’s named after the book The Dot written by Peter H. Reynolds and is about a girl who discovers herself after a teacher challenges her to “make her mark”.
Farm Bureau of Clay County recently made donations of school supplies to two area schools, Rector Elementary and Piggott Elementary. .
Corning FFA students work diligently to maintain their show animals, work with them daily, as well as study for showmanship. All that hard work paid off at the Clay County Fair as students earned multiple ribbons.
Bill Ennis will be undergoing brain surgery on Thursday, Sept.26 to remove a growth that was discovered on a pet scan after receiving his prostate cancer diagnosis. Requests have been made asking for prayers that this spot on his brain is benign and that he will require no treatment following this procedure. Please pray that the surgery goes exactly as planned and that his surgeon finds no other problematic areas. Pray that recovery is smooth and that he regains his strength quickly so that he is able to start radiation for his prostate cancer.
Residents of Corning have been noticing some activity at the former Walmart facility on Main Street. That’s because a new startup manufacturing business is going to make Corning its home providing an economic boost to the community. Rob Hansen, the principal owner and Tony Kaschak, a percentage owner of Five Rivers Plastic Manufacturing, recently purchased G&H Decoys, Inc. and will be producing duck decoys in Corning, Arkansas. Kaschak’s grandson, Andrew, has moved and relocated to Arkansas to work for the company as well. Brent Sawyer from southwest Louisiana, is the General Manager of G&H Decoys and will be moving his family here in the next year or so.
On August 24, 2024, an officer with the Corning Police Department conducted a traffic stop on East Walnut Street. During the stop, consent to search was given and officers located a small plastic baggie containing a crystal substance that field tested positive for Methamphetamine. 47 year old Gerald Jackson of Corning was then placed into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. Mr. Jackson was charged with §5-64-419 Possession of a Scheduled 1 Controlled Substance Less Than 2 Grams. On August 26, 2024, District Judge Dan Stidham set bond at $10,000 cash or surety. Mr. Jackson is due back in Circuit Court on November 1, 2024.
An exciting manufacturing development announcement was made at the Corning City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 that resulted in the lease of the former Walmart building to a startup manufacturing company that produces duck decoys.
