Grants Available for Charitable Programs in Clay, Lawrence and Randolph Counties

Pocahontas (January 3, 2022) – Nonprofits in Clay, Lawrence and Randolph counties can go to arcf.org/givingtree beginning January 10 to apply online for Giving Tree Grants through North Delta Community Foundation, an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation. Applications must be submitted online by February 15.

Records increase seen in Arkansas school districts in red, purple zones on ACHI’s map for new COVID-19 infections

LITTLE ROCK ― In a single week, the number of Arkansas public school districts with COVID-19 infection rates of 50 or more new known infections per 10,000 district residents over a 14-day period has seen a nearly fivefold increase, going from 28 last week to 138 this week, the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement said Wednesday, citing its analysis of Arkansas Department of Health data current as of Monday.

Arkansas Pediatricians Urge School Mask Policies, Vaccinations Amid Alarming Rise in COVID-19 Infections

LITTLE ROCK, AR – As COVID-19 cases surge to record numbers in the state, pediatrician members of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ARAAP) are reiterating their strong recommendation that schools and childcare facilities implement school wide mask policies for staff and students older than 2 years of age, in alignment with guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics, to help keep children and staff in school. Pediatricians also recommend all eligible staff and children receive COVID-19 vaccines, which reduce infections, hospitalizations, and death from the virus.

Took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’; WWII veteran’s watch helps tell the story of soldiers from that era

An old watch arrived at the B-29 Bombers on the Prairie Museum in Pratt, Kansas for safe-keeping two weeks ago, still wrapped in packaging direct from Japan. It no longer has a military issued band and it couldn’t be relied upon to keep accurate time, though the second hand still functions. However, this watch is a special time piece, or rather a piece of time, because it carries with it memories from WWII, lived by the United State veteran who wore it and shared with and by his family.

Rice and Soybean Production Meeting – Feb. 3

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will have a Rice and Soybean Production Meeting on Thursday, February 3rd, at the MB Ainley Community Center in Corning. The meeting begins at 11:30 A.M. The following list of speakers will provide the latest research-based information concerning rice and soybean production: Dr. Jarrod Hardke, rice production update; Dr. Thomas Butts, weed control update; Dr. Jeremy Ross, soybean production update. NRCS will give an update on their programs. Industry representatives will be on hand providing product information for our area. Credits will be offered for certified crop advisors. Lunch will be provided at 11:30. An agenda for the meeting is provided on the back side of this letter.
