Kindergarten Registration at Corning Park Elementary

Kindergarten Registration at Corning Park Elementary is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM then 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM and on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A child must be 5-years-old on or before August 1st of the current school year in order to enroll. Parent or legal guardian must be present in order to register a student. The following documents are required for registration: a current immunization official document, birth certificate, social security card, and a physical examination (within the last 2 years of the first day of school which is August 22). Please bring these documents when registering.

Arkansas Women in Agriculture Conference To Be Held March 15 & 16 in Little Rock

The answer is unequivocally yes, because project based learning really comes down to heightening student engagement with authenticity and purposeful work, and elementary students thrive on having purpose in their work as well.

Clay Co. Sheriff reports possible homicide near Rector

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller reports that on the evening of March 8, 2022 at approximately 8:25 p.m. Clay County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a possible homicide on Highway 49 just east of Rector. Upon deputies’ arrival, a male victim identified as Matthew Hale was found to be deceased. Sheriff Miller has requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police in the investigation. ASP CID investigators processed the scene and collected evidence at the residence. The investigation is ongoing and the body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. Sheriff Miller urges anyone with information on this incident to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 870-598-2270.

School Board accepts resignations, approves administration

The Corning School Board met at 5:00 p.m. on March 8, 2022 with all members present. The board approved the minutes and financial report. The resignations of Tyler Golden, Trisha Woodard, and Tim Harrison were accepted. The board approved the employments of current administrators Shelley Smith, Chad Hovis, Heather Clifton, and Shannon Fish for the 2022-2023 school year. Next the board approved the renewal of the OT and Speech Therapy Contract with NEA Therapy for the 2022- 2023 school year. An inventory deletion was approved followed by the approval of a purchase of a 2022 B/R Dump Trailer from Silver Line Trailers for $12,495.00. Superintendent Woolard shared information with the board concerning her discussions with BRTC about a Career Technical Center to serve Clay County, ESSER updates, and reminded the board of the time change to 7:00 p.m. for April-November meetings. There being no further business, President Turner adjourned the meeting.
