Miss Independence Pageants for ages 0–6-yearolds were held on Saturday, June 25 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center beginning at 9 a.m. with the Infant Miss pageant for contestants ages 0-11 months. Hudsyn Murray, daughter of Austin and Natalie Murray was crowned Infant Miss Queen.

Practice for the Miss Independence pageant contests for ages 7 – 18 will be Saturday, July 2 at Wynn Park. Contestants may also sign up and pay on Saturday.
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Williams Baptist University has released the names of Alexis Taylor of Corning and Alexis Herrera of Rector as earning the recognition of making the Dean’s List for the 2022 spring semester.
Tony Berg, the popular and efficient young bookkeeper at W.R. Alexander’s mill, while helping carry away furniture from the St. James Hotel fire last Friday night, was struck on the nose by the iron end-hook of a bedrail thrown from an upstairs window, his nose was torn off and he fell to the sidewalk unconscious. Friends carried him to Dr. Simpson who sewed his nose on before he became conscious again.
The annual Pollard Picnic will be held Saturday, July 9 at Pollard, Arkansas. Fried chicken dinners, music, baseball games, games for children, and beauty pageants will highlight the picnic. The pageant committee announces the following events:
Corning, Ark. — Clay County Electric Cooperative of Corning recently returned more than $1.6 million in capital credits to their members. The not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative has retired more than $19 million in capital credits to members since 1938.
