The Corning School District presented its Annual Report to the Public and Title I Meeting on September 27, 2022. At the conclusion of the annual report the board continued with the monthly meeting with four board members present; Kirk Scobey, Kenny Francis, Billy Allen, and Vickie Robinson. President Keith Turner was unable to attend. Minutes and financial reports were approved followed by the employment of Randy Jackson as bus driver. The board approved the addition of basketball shot clock keeper to the supplemental salary schedule at a rate of $20 per game. Shot clocks will be used during senior high games only.

House of Representatives State of Arkansas District 56 Every community feels the impact when adults lack a high school diploma or the skills to compete in the 21st century workforce. Not only is it devastating for the adults who may dream of a better life for their families, but it may impact education for future generations.

LITTLE ROCK – Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic Arkansas has received billions of dollars in federal relief funding. The PEER subcommittee of the Legislative Council has grown significantly in importance because it reviews how state agencies, institutions of higher education and public schools proposed to spend those federal relief dollars.

Nine-year old Silas Bass of Corning killed a 6 ft., 400 lb. black bear in Mountain View, Arkansas on Saturday, September 17 while hunting with his father, Bryan Bass. Silas shot and killed the bear with a cross bow.

Arkansas County Treasurers kicked off their fall meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Morrilton, Arkansas at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute with revenue projections as the first topic of discussion. On Sept. 16 the treasurers heard a presentation on Spending ARP Money and Winthrop Rockefeller Institute CEO Janet Harris presented an in-depth history of the Institute. Attending the meeting was Clay County Clerk Brande Boyd (left) pictured above with Jefferson County Treasurer Vonysha Goodwin.

Ronnie Barnes won Pick the Winner for the second time this season. This week was a close win for Barnes as he tied in the number of team wins and won through his tiebreaking score on the Corning and EPC game.
