Top 3 spellers earn spots at County Bee

Corning Middle School held the annual district spelling bee on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, in the high school auditorium. The participants consisted of grades 5-8. Corning will host the County Spelling Bee this year. Spanish-American War veteran interred in Corning Cemetery

Seventeen-year-old Mollie Thompson comes from a strong military lineage and is the descendant of a Spanish-American War veteran that is buried in the Corning Cemetery. Her great-great-greatgrandfather, Thomas Ulper Grant Lamb, known as Grant, entered the Spanish American War when it broke out in 1898. Grant left his family in Vincennes, Indiana to be a soldier and was sent to Cuba to fight in the war. He died March 1, 1937, in Little Rock of malignancy of the left femur. Before his death he was an Elder and pastored in the Mis- whelmed and desperate.

QC ARPA Committee Meets

Clay County Quorum Court ARPA committee met Thursday, Nov. 10 at the courthouse in Corning. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss employee bonus money and repairs on the jail with the ARPA funds. The committee consists of Justice Duane Blanchard, Justice David Hatcher, Justice Patrick Patterson and Justice Darius Smith.

MyZouey Rescue topic of Chamber Luncheon

Corning Veterinarian Dr. Ginger Segraves had a busy day as the guest speaker at the November Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on Monday, Nov. 14 at El Acapulco Restaurant and also attending the city council meeting that evening. Accompanying her at the luncheon was Austin Johnson with MyZouy Rescue. Johnson handles the social media for the nonprofit.
