Harpole among broadcasters recognized

A high school sports broadcaster with local ties was among three sports announcers honored by the Cave City School District and area schools during the championship games of the Izard County Tournament for their dedicated service to area schools. Coach Bob Harpole, formerly of Corning, Coach Gary Cooper and Mr. James Bragg were recognized during the games played on Saturday night, Dec. 10.

Corning City Council meets second Monday of each month, 6:00 p.m., in City Hall. Clay County Quorum Court, Third Monday each month, 7:00 p.m., alternating between Corning and Piggott courthouses.

City of Corning awarded pool grant

During the last regular council meeting of 2022 on Monday, Dec. 12, Mayor Greg Ahrent announced, “It’s my pleasure to inform you that the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, Outdoor Recreation Grant Advisory Committee has recommended that the City of Corning be awarded a grant based on their 2023 application for matching grant funds. We did get a $250,000 matching grant.” The city will need to match the $250,000 grant for the pool.

USPS Holiday Service Schedule

This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Sundays, when Post Office locations are normally closed. Post Offices will also be closed on the Mondays after Christmas and New Year’s Day. Regular Post Office hours and mail delivery will resume on the Tuesday after each holiday.
