Quorum Court meets, swears in JPs
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session Monday, Dec. 19 at the Corning Courthouse with all justice’s present. After the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, the outgoing county clerk Brandi Boyd swore in the justices of the peace.

Rutledge recognizes Clay County Officer of the Year
Corporal Tompkins honored as County Officer of the Year Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge hosted the 20th annual Officer of the Year awards and recognition luncheon Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Benton Event Center, where she honored Arkansas State Police Corporal Michael Tompkins as the Clay County Officer of the Year.

GCT raises funds for city swimming pool
Arkansas county music entertainer Cory Jackson appeared at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center for a benefit concert for the Corning Swimming Pool on Friday, Dec. 9. Jackson who was to appear at the Hop Alley Rally, an annual Growing Corning Together event, was unable to entertain due to inclement weather and a blown transformer downtown. GCT President George Lowe and the entertainer agreed that a concert to benefit the pool would be a good way for Jackson to honor his contract with the nonprofit.

USPS Holiday Service Schedule
This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Sundays, when Post Office locations are normally closed. Post Offices will also be closed on the Mondays after Christmas and New Year’s Day. Regular Post Office hours and mail delivery will resume on the Tuesday after each holiday.

Clay County Farm Bureau President accepts Arkansas Farm Bureau Gold Star Plaque
Farmers, ranchers and agricultural leaders from across the state gathered in Hot Springs on Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 for Arkansas Farm Bureau’s88thannualconvention. Awards were presented to county Farm Bureaus for their work in support of the organization’s agricultural advocacy and membership efforts. Clay County Farm Bureau President Jeremy Wiedeman received the Gold Star Plaque from Arkansas Farm Bureau Board Vice President Mike Freeze, President Rich Hillman and Secretary Dan Wright.
