Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 The German Church, 1900 The drive to develop the new County of Clay in Northeast Arkansas inspired land agents to lease huge tracts of farm and timber land to bring in new settlers, many of them immigrants from overseas. The land North of Corning was featured in such a deal and was sold to new Americans who had just arrived from Germany.
The senior division state championship event of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Youth Shooting Sports Program at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex took place on Saturday, June 3.
Corning Odyssey of the Mind attended Odyssey of the Mind World Finals held at Michigan State University on May 24th - 27th. There were two teams who made the trip to Lansing, Michigan to compete with teams from around the world.

It’s time that time of year for the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce to begin selling 50/50 raffle tickets. Ron Kimble of Corning purchased his tickets last week and placed them in the ticket barrel at the Chamber office.
WELCOME CENTER REPORT Hello Clay County Courier readers, We are getting closer and closer to summer vacation season! The schools are getting out and families are traveling for university graduations. We had a great National Travel and Tourism Week here in Corning.
The Corning Beautification Committee would like to congratulate Lindsey George Williams for being chosen as the Artist of the Month for June. Lindsey is a native of Corning and a 2009 Corning High School graduate. Williams said she has always been interested in art. “I love doodling/sketching and hand-lettering,” she said. “Painting is a therapeutic hobby for me and I started sharing my pieces on Facebook in January 2023.” Lindsey is a third and fourth grade teacher in the Corning School District at Park Elementary. She is also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Corning. She is married to Jared Williams and the couple have two sons, Brooks, age 8 and Linkin, who is 3 years old. Lindsey’s artwork will be on display all month at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center for the public to enjoy.
The Corning Public Library is hosting their annual Summer Reading Program during the month of June. The theme is “All Together Now” with a focus is on anti-bullying, community, and kindness.
Anyone may fish in Arkansas without a fishing license or trout stamp from noon this Friday, June 9, through midnight Sunday night, June 11. The biggest events during the weekend are the AGFC’s annual hatchery fishing derbies, being held June 10 at all four of the agency’s warm water fish hatcheries.
