The Corning School Board met on June 13, 2023 with five members present. Following a welcome to new board member Chris Shourd, the minutes and financial report were approved. The board elected officers for the upcoming year: President Kirk Scobey, Vice President Kenny Francis, and Secretary Vickie Robinson were elected. The Certificate of Appointment for District Treasurer Tara Hovis, effective July 1, 2023, was approved along with Financial Resolutions for District Treasurer Hovis and President Kirk Scobey to sign financial documents on behalf of the Corning School District. Next, the board approved financial resolutions for doing business with First National Bank of Corning and Legacy Equipment of Corning.

The annual Pollard Picnic will be held Saturday, July 8 at Pollard, Arkansas. Fried chicken dinners, music, baseball games, games for children, and beauty pageants will highlight the picnic.

The Corning Public Library continues to host their annual Summer Reading Program during the month of June. The theme is “All Together Now” with a focus is on anti-bullying, community, and kindness.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK—The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a Harmful Algal Bloom Advisory for Victory Lake in Clay County, AR. The public is advised to avoid contact with the lake in the affected area.
