School Board holds June meeting

The Corning School Board met on June 13, 2023 with five members present. Following a welcome to new board member Chris Shourd, the minutes and financial report were approved. The board elected officers for the upcoming year: President Kirk Scobey, Vice President Kenny Francis, and Secretary Vickie Robinson were elected. The Certificate of Appointment for District Treasurer Tara Hovis, effective July 1, 2023, was approved along with Financial Resolutions for District Treasurer Hovis and President Kirk Scobey to sign financial documents on behalf of the Corning School District. Next, the board approved financial resolutions for doing business with First National Bank of Corning and Legacy Equipment of Corning.

Clay Co. Extension Homemakers attend state meeting

The Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council (AEHC) held their state meeting June 6-8 in North Little Rock at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel. “New Friends & Old, Together We Grow” was the theme for the event. There were several informative educational classes planned for those in attendance to learn new things, as well as fun craft classes and games. Kat Robinson, Arkansas’s food historian, author, and filmmaker, was the events closing guest speaker.

Freeda Wiley

Freeda Wiley, 80, of Jerseyville, IL passed away June 5, 2023 at Jerseyville Community Hospital. Mrs. Wiley was born May 8, 1943 in Pollard, AR. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafting, flowers and spending time with her family. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Glenda Faye Sollis

Glenda Faye Sollis, 80, of Hot Springs, went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1942, in Lafe, Arkansas to Leon and Betty Brewer. She had many health issues over the years, and she is suffering no more. The last few days, she was so joyful, thankful for everything and most of all was able to share the Love of Jesus Christ with so many during her time at CHI Hospital and CHI Encompass Health Rehab before coming home to spend her last days with the love of her life for almost 61 years. She was Southern Baptist and taught many classes over the years.
