City honoring Chief Leach on retirement
The public is invited to a retirement party for Police Chief Jimmy Leach on June 30th at 12 p.m. at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Leach has been with the Corning Police Department since November 1997. His last day in his position will be June 30, 2023.

City ordinance sets fireworks curfew at 10 p.m.
Corning Mayor Greg Ahrent reminds residents that the city ordinance regarding fireworks prohibits the use of fireworks after 10 p.m. each evening through Monday, July 10, 2023. Fireworks are prohibited within the city limits after the July 10 deadline.

Datto cues the fireworks . . .
It was the perfect night for fried pies, barbeque, shaved ice and fireworks as people from surrounding communities gathered in the town of Datto. The fifth annual Datto Fireworks Show was held on Saturday, June 24 at 9 p.m. with refreshment vendors available prior to the show beginning at 7 p.m. The fireworks show is supported each year by donations from individuals and businesses in the surrounding communities that allows the pyrotechnics to be greater each year and a community crowd pleaser.

A banner year for the city and county
Residents and visitors to Corning may have noticed the banners marking the city and county’s sesquicentennial. Thanks to the City of Corning, the Corning Area Chamber Commerce, and Growing Corning Together the banners were purchased and placed on utility poles around town to mark Corning and Clay County’s Sesquicentennial.

Armband Nights for carnival rides set for June 29 & 30
The Corning July 1st picnic will have carnival rides for children of all ages and kids at heart. Hulsey Amusements is providing a variety of rides from gentle carousels to thrilling roller coasters.

Library to host book signing for veteran author
The Corning Public Library is hosting a book signing for author Larry Murley on Monday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Murley, a Viet Nam veteran, writes primarily historical fiction and has penned eight books. His most recent book is “Memories of a Country Boy or Are There Any of Them Big Ol’ Red Crawdads Over On Ring Slough?”
