POCAHONTAS, AR — Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Spring 2023 Trap and Skeet team recently ended the season by making BRTC history. Team members competed in a 5-week season that resulted in two team members receiving USA Clay Target League awards.
Favorable weather and good crowds were the order of the day Saturday, July 8, as the 90th annual Pollard Picnic was held. Each year the event is held at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.

Basic Sewing and Quilting are topics of August workshops POWHATAN, Ark. – Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Sewing and Quilting workshop in August. The workshops have a registration fee and reservations are required.
Arkansans have an opportunity to apply to accompany an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Game Warden on a ride along. Mike Hovis of Naylor is the winner of the Corning 4th of July Homecoming 50/50 Raffle Drawing. His name was drawn by a young man by the name of Matthew Hulsey and witnessed by Archie Banks of Miami, Waylon Haynes of New York, NY and Joe Wolfard, North Carolina.
There’s a new head of law enforcement in town with a familiar face. Blaine McClung is the newly appointed Chief of Police for the city of Corning. Mc-Clung has had extensive involvement as an officer of the law with a total of 10 years of experience in both Clay County and Corning law enforcement agencies.
