In addition to the musical highlights to be offered at the Ford Room on Thursday, July 20, the VIP Meet and Greet will again be a treat. Mavis Smith Auction Company will again donate a light buffet supper for VIP ticket holders. It has been a remarkable journey for the Sugar Creek group. Rector music lovers will enjoy socializing with the men and discussing their career and talent.

GCT hosts Water Slide Day

Growing Corning Together will be hosting free Water Slide Days for the community. Kids of all ages will be able to enjoy the first of two Water Slide Days at the Corning Community Center on Saturday, July 22 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The event is open for all ages. The date for the second Water Slide Day is August 26.

St. Francis Picnic wrap-up

Despite the usual hot summer weather, good crowds were on hand for the traditional food, fun and pageants Saturday as the annual St. Francis Picnic was held. The picnic is held in mid-July each year, with the proceeds benefiting both the Hall and Gravel Hill Cemeteries.

Mustangs, memories and memorabilia highlight Knobel School Reunion

Former students of the Knobel School District shared laughs, memo-perused Knobel Mustang annuals at the Knobel School Reunion held July 1, 2023 at the MB Ainley, Jr. Community Center in Corning. Lois Wright and Wallace Howell hosted the event this year and were well pleased with the attendance of the 174 former students who registered. The reunion was held in Corning at the community center in order to hold the number of people attending. Wright stated, “The last graduating class at Knobel High was in 1985, which at that time consolidated with Corning.” The alumni were honored to have 1945 graduate, Ann Barnett Hamlett and 1947 graduate, Syble Fowler Ingram in attendance. Everyone is already looking forward to the next Knobel School Reunion planned for July 5, 2025 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center in Corning.

Traffic stop ends in arrests

On July 5,2023, deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop of a gold color Ford Ranger on US Highway 62 and the intersection of Highway 1 east of Piggott. After advising the driver of why he was stopped, deputies ran a check on both subjects in the truck. The deputies were advised that the passenger, 34-year-old Courtney Bland had a Felony warrant out of Lawrence County for Revocation of Probation. He was also advised that 43-yearold Jason D. Jones, the driver, was on Probation and had a search waiver on file. Mrs. Bland was placed in custody on the warrant out of Lawrence County and Mr. Jones was advised by deputies they were going to search his vehicle since he had a search waiver. A search of the vehicle found illegal contraband. Jones was taken into custody for Possession of Controlled Substance Meth, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Seat Belt, and Defective Vehicle Equipment.

Dewayne Robison

Dewayne Robison, 75, of Poplar Bluff, MO., passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Robison was born March 29, 1948 in Success, AR. He loved engineering, building race cars, motorcycles, boats, and flying airplanes. Mr. Robison was a truck driver, farmer, and a city employee. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
