Coleman awarded highest Lions Club honor
Louise Coleman was recently awarded the highest honor bestowed by Lions Club International for her humanitarianism and years of service as a Lions Club member. Coleman has been a Corning Lions Club member since Feb.

IT Professionals Appreciation
In celebration of our faculty and staff at Corning Schools we have put together a “Celebration Calendar” where we will recognize and celebrate specific groups of our staff each month. For September we will celebrate our substitute teachers and IT Professionals.
Car pursuit leads to two arrests
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department was notified at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 by Poplar Bluff, MO Police Department to be on the look out for a black metallic Dodge Avenger with two black females. Poplar Bluff said they were in pursuit of them but terminated their pursuit. They requested that if the Clay County Sheriff’s Department came into contact with the vehicle to stop and detain the females. The Poplar Bluff PD reported to the Sheriff’s Department that the females were caught stealing from Carter’s in Poplar Bluff and fled. A deputy traveled north of Corning to the intersection of US 67 and Highway 328 to watch for the subjects. At approximately 6:13 p.m. the vehicle was observed by the deputy southbound on US 67. The deputy tried to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle fled. The vehicle went through the intersection of US 62 and US 67 in Corning and headed east on US 62 out of Corning with the Sheriff’s Department and Corning Police Department in pursuit. The pursuit traveled east through McDougal headed toward Pollard. The Sheriff’s Department deployed spike strips at the highway bridge by New Hope Church on US 62 just west of Pollard. The pursued vehicle ran over the spike strips with the left side of the vehicle. The pursuit went through Pollard and ended about a mile east of Pollard on US 62 when the left tires started coming off the vehicle. Officers blocked them in, and the driver of the vehicle tried to hit a deputy’s truck. Officers then approached the vehicle and removed both subjects and placed them in custody. The two females were transported to the Clay County Detention Center where they were booked in on the following charges.

Corning PD responds to one vehicle crash
The Corning Police Department responded to a one vehicle crash on Monday, Sept. 18 that occurred at 4:58 a.m. at Clay 1412 Road. Officer James Harmon arrived at the scene of a 2012 Volvo Waba, Tractor/semi-trailer, driven by Collins Emeka Llolo, 41 of Richmond, TX, which was overturned. According to the accident report, the Volvo hit the bridge on Hwy 67 West, ran off the highway, struck a cable pole and the truck rolled over. The damage to the truck leaked out fuel and oil into the field. A Hazmat team responded to the scene.

Jacob Arnold earns Writer Spotlight
Jacob Arnold, a fourth grade student in class 4B at Park Elementary, earned the Writer’s Spotlight for his written description of a fairy below. There was a fairy that had very unique colorful wings.
