State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – The state Transportation Department has written a plan to reduce carbon emissions by improving traffic flow and connecting highways more efficiently with railroad terminals and ports. The department is due to receive $87 million from the federal government, between now and 2026, for projects that reduce carbon emissions.

Positive School Environment

It’s easy to get bogged down with all that is negative. It seems as if everywhere we look we find nothing but complaints. Often, we get so focused on what’s wrong that we can’t see everything that is right. Recently I read an article that stated positive school environments promote better student achievement and behavior, and in turn, promote better teaching and better teacher behavior. We need to be proud to be Corning Bobcats, and we have many reasons to be proud. I want to share my top 10 with you.

Special School Board Meeting Minutes

The Corning School Board met for a special board meeting on October 3, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. in the board room with four members present. President Kirk Scobey was unable to attend. The board approved the recommendation to employ Theresa McKay as Park Elementary ALE Teacher, Karen Carpenter as High School Cafeteria Manager, and Ashley Banks as a bus driver. There being no further business, Vice President Kenny Francis adjourned the meeting.

Story time with Coach Shelton

On Thursday, Sept. 28, kindergarten students at Park Elementary enjoyed a visit from Corning Head Football Coach Farrell Shelton who read stories to the young learners. The kindergarteners had just completed a 26-day lesson where they focused on a letter of the alphabet each day in their preparation to become readers. As a part of the alphabet lesson, students wore shirts or brought objects to school each day to represent the letter

Leo Hudson

Leo Hudson, 90, of Corning, AR., passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at Corning Therapy and Living Center in Corning, AR. Mr. Hudson was born in Tryon, OK., on September 3, 1933. He was a retired truck driver and farmer. He enjoyed whittling sticks, Cardinal baseball, spending time with his family and talking with truckers who were passing through. He was of the Baptist faith.

Fall is here and cooler temperatures will follow soon. Those of us who like to bake are getting ready to use our ovens and bake some of our favorite quick loaf bread recipes. Three of my favorites are Pumpkin Break, Banana Nut Bread, and Cranberry Bread. However, not all Quick Breads are sweet.
