Bobcat Science Fair winners announced

Young critical thinkers at Park Elementary and Corning Middle School participated in the first annual Bobcat Science Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The science fair was open to students in Kindergarten through the 8th Grade. Students’ projects were scored based on a twopart system; the display and information presented, as well as an interview with two judges. The stu- dents had to be able to describe and explain their project without the assistance of their boards.

Future Interstate 57 Alignment from Walnut Ridge to Missouri State Line Chosen

An official route has been chosen for the Future Interstate 57 corridor between Walnut Ridge and the Missouri State Line. The Federal Highway Administration issued a Record of Decision (ROD) identifying the Selected Alternative, or chosen route, for the Future Interstate 57 (I-57) corridor between Walnut Ridge and the Missouri State line, clearing the way for the next phase of project development.

Sheriff’s Dept. investigates accident at St. Francis River Bridge

On Saturday, October 21, 2023 at approximately 8:19 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call concerning a vehicle that had been run off the road at the St. Francis River Bridge on Hwy 90 toward Kennett, MO. The Sheriff’s Department also got a description of the vehicle that had apparently run the vehicle off the road. At approximately 8:42 p.m., the Piggott Police Department stopped a vehicle that matched the description. The vehicle was occupied by 1 adult driver and 3 juveniles. After talking to those occupants, the deputy learned that some type of altercation between the occupants of both vehicles had started in Kennett and had continued into Clay County. After a deputy talked to occupants of the vehicle that had been run off the road, he learned that both vehicles apparently had been at speeds of over 75 MPH. He also learned at some point the vehicle that was run off the road had turned its lights off. The two occupants of the vehicle at the Kennett Bridge were both 17 years of age, one was airlifted at the scene and the other was transported by ambulance to Piggott Hospital. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Bobby Clark of Risco, MO that was stopped by Piggott PD was booked into the Clay County Detention Center on following charges.
