4th of July parade to follow regular route

4th of July Parade Chairman, D.J. Herzog states the parade route will follow its regular route during the 2025 4th of July Parade. At exactly 9 a.m., the parade will begin moving, led by the sirens of the Corning Police Department. The parade assembled on Second Street, south from the intersection with Pine Street will begin moving through the downtown area.The Corning Police Chief will lead the parade as it travels north to Main Street. The parade will turn left at Red Taylor Ford (Second and Elm) and head toward Missouri Avenue (Ermert Funeral Home corner) and turn South (left turn) on Missouri Avenue. After two blocks, the parade hits Harb Street and proceeds toward the back entrance of Wynn Park.

The Corning School Board

The Corning School Board met on June 16 with five members present. The May minutes and financial report were approved. The board elected officers for the upcoming year: President Kirk Scobey, Vice President Kenny Francis, and Secretary Vickie Robinson. Following the election of officers, financial resolutions for Billy Allen and Christ Shourd were approved. Then the board entered into executive session to discuss personnel matters. After the board returned from executive session, the board accepted the resignations of Randy Jackson, secretary; Megan Owens, elementary art; and Desiree Utley, cafeteria worker. The board approved the employment of Rethalee Morrow as high school/middle school secretary; Heather Clifton golf coach, and Angel Harrison as elementary art, pending her release from contract from another district. The board approved various policy changes and updates including a new mandatory cell phone policy. The cell phone policy changes are required by state law. Mrs. Woolard shared with the board her plans to share the new cell phone policy with parents/guardians as soon as possible to prepare everyone for the required changes. After discussion of student achievement and changes in risk management insurance, the board approved the presentation of the district discipline report for the 2024-2025 school year as required by law. Finally, the board discussed the construction project timeline. Demolition for phase one is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks. Demo should take approximately 30 days. The plans and paperwork for construction have been submitted to the state for approval, which should take 4-5 weeks. Mrs. Woolard is hopeful that construction should begin in late August. There being no further business, President Scobey adjourned the meeting.

Corning Chamber hears update on 4th of July celebrations from Growing Corning Together

The June Corning Area Chamber of Commerce meeting was called to order by Pres. Rhonda Sollis at Gigi’s Restaurant on June 12. An invocational prayer was offered by Terry Gleghorn following which President Sollis introduced Colton Ladyman, President of Growing Corning Together to give an update on the 4th of July celebration they have planned in absence of the event hosted by the Chamber.
