Holcomb hired as CEA – Agriculture

Meet the newest Clay County Extension Service agriculture agent, Ben Holcomb. Holcomb is a resident of Piggott and graduated from Piggott High School in 2020, where his interest in agriculture began. “I was a member of FFA through high school. I was involved with the CDE teams in competitions.” He graduated from Arkansas State University in the fall of 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Plant and Soil Science. “Throughout my college career, I worked in several areas of the agriculture industry. When I got the opportunity to take the County Extension Agent job, I was very honored to be chosen. I am excited to learn more about the agriculture industry and meet all the Clay County farmers,” he said.

‘Merry and Bright’ theme for Chamber Christmas Banquet

The Corning Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2023 Chamber Christmas Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 14 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. The theme for the table decorating contest is “Merry and Bright”. Participants may provide a centerpiece on their table for a door prize. Tables may be bedecked on the day of the event after 10 a.m. to be completed by 4:30 p.m. for judging. Certificates will be presented during the evening to the table winners.

Supreme Court Justice raises awareness about judicial races

March 5, 2024 marks primary season to select party nominees for the general election in Nov. 2024. Arkansans may not realize that the general election for Arkansas judicial races is also March 5. Per the Constitution, judicial races are nonpartisan. Both Republican and Democratic ballots will have the judicial candidates running for election. Arkansans will make the deciding vote for the justices sitting on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Chamber Christmas Banquet set for Dec. 14

The Corning Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2023 Chamber Christmas Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 14 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. Tickets will be priced at $25 each. The Chamber is continuing with the table decorating contest, this year’s theme is “Merry and Bright”. As tradition goes, individuals and/or businesses, who would like to participate, to have a centerpiece or a nice item on their table for a door prize. To request a black table linen, please contact Sherry Taylor at the Chamber office as soon as possible to reserve one. Participants may decorate their tables on the day of the event after 10 a.m. to be completed by 4:30 p.m. for judging. Certificates will be presented during the evening to the table winners.
