Eighth graders inducted into NJHS

National Junior Honor Society inductions were held on Tuesday evening, Nov. 14 at the Corning High School auditorium. There were 10 eighth grade students, who attend Corning Middle School, inducted by NJHS Advisor, Jennifer Poe and 9th grade officers. Congratulations to new NJHS members: Bailey Catt, Jaggar George, Carlee Gleghorn, Jackson Jett, Krista King, Henry Pyle, TJ Small, Levi Vanderberg, Aubree Whitley, and Eli Wright.

Bill Skaggs

Bill Skaggs, 73, of Corning, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 20, 2023 at Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro. Mr. Skaggs was born September 8, 1950 in Neelyville, MO. He was a retired welder from Darling Store Fixtures and enjoyed farming. He enjoyed telling stories and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He liked to watch wildlife with his binoculars and loved Hallmark movies. He was of the Christian faith. On September 9, 1977, he married Brenda Hall Ladd. They recently celebrated their 46th anniversary. In addition to his wife, other survivors include his children, Shelby (David) Burkheart of Corning, Jason W. (Karie) Skaggs of Jacksonville, NC and Billy L. (Pam) Skaggs of Poplar Bluff, MO; brothers, Benny Skaggs of Success and Rex (Gloria) Skaggs of Corning; grandchildren, Brent and Owen Burkheart, Hallie, Matthew and Ivy Skaggs; and several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lowell “Joe” and Helen (Toombs) Skaggs, brother, Windell Skaggs, sister, Kathy Welker and sister-in-law, Karon Skaggs. Visitation was held Friday, November 24, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral service conducted Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Ermert Funeral Home. Joe Nolan

Joe Nolan, 64, of Knobel, AR., passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Nolan was born July 4, 1959 in Paragould, AR. He was a self-employed farmer. He enjoyed deer hunting, being outdoors working his farm and teasing his grandchildren.

‘Merry and Bright’ theme for Chamber Christmas Banquet

The Corning Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2023 Chamber Christmas Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 14 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center. The theme for the table decorating contest is “Merry and Bright”. Participants may provide a centerpiece on their table for a door prize. Tables may be bedecked on the day of the event after 10 a.m. to be completed by 4:30 p.m. for judging. Certificates will be presented during the evening to the table winners.
