Bob Lockwood, 87, of Corning, AR., passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at NEA Baptist Hospital. Mr. Lockwood was born May 23, 1936 in Corning, AR., Mr. Lockwood was a retired loan officer at First National Bank. He loved camping, going to the lake, spending time with family, gardening, watching the Razorbacks. He was a member of the Lions Club. He was of Baptist Faith.

Corning Cares spreads Christmas joy with “Shop with a Hero”

Corning Cares held its 9th annual “Shop with a Hero” event on Saturday, Dec. 9. The shopping venture ensures that local children in families with need receive Christmas presents and have a happy holiday season. The event also allows approximately 60 children to bond with the men and women who serve in the community every day in their roles as law enforcement officers, firefighters, and First Responders and to view them in a positive light as friends and people they can rely on. In addition, it assists area businesses and the City of Corning, as the organization spends an average of $10,000 per year in local shops.

Corning PD arrest 2 for drug possession

On December 7, 2023 Officers with the Corning Police Department were dispatched to an address on Harb Street in Corning for a female passed out in a vehicle. Upon making contact with a female in the vehicle officers learned that the sole occupant was Ashley Lewis. While standing outside of the vehicle officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the officers then had Ms. Lewis step out the vehicle where they recovered a glass container containing a small amount of marijuana. After learning that Ms. Lewis was on parole, the officers conducted a parole search on the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle officers located on the dashboard in front of the driver seat, a clear plastic baggie containing a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also inside the vehicle the officers located a set of rolling papers used to smoke marijuana. Ms. Lewis was then transported to the Clay County Detention Center, bond was set by District Judge, Dan Stidham in the amount of $25,000.
