After last Friday’s Arkansas Legislative Council meeting, the Senate Committee on Rules, Resolutions, and Memorials gathered in room 309 in the Capitol to consider 93 gubernatorial appointees to various boards and commissions. When this committee meets to consider such appointments, generally one member of the press attends, and nobody from the public ever bothers to show up. At last Friday’s meeting, I counted at least six members of the press, including a reporter and photog for a Little Rock TV station and Matt Campbell with the Arkansas Times, along with a handful of members of the public.

LITTLE ROCK – A subcommittee of the Legislative Council recommended almost $5.9 million in funding for the Arkansas Fire Training Academy, the primary training ground for firefighters from across the state.

Officers from the Corning Police Department, Piggott Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Rector Police Department, and Piggott School District participated in an Active Shooter Response / Tactical Entry Training by the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association (USDSA) hosted by the Piggott Police Department.
