POCAHONTAS, AR — Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted its Spring 2024 nursing orientation. One hundred and twenty-four students attended orientation including practical nursing students, traditional registered nursing students, and transition registered nursing students.
POCAHONTAS, AR — Black River Technical College is pleased to announce the students who have been named to the President’s and Deans’ List for the Fall semester of 2023. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 college credit hours, excluding developmental courses, not be on any type of probation, and must have a minimum grade point average of 4.0.
Seniors at Corning High School participated in a “Get Real: Financial Management” workshop on January 24 thanks to the assistance of community members and local businesses. .

January is School Board Member Recognition Month in Arkansas. School Board members play an essential role in our community. The Corning School District celebrates our board by thanking them for the time, talents, and knowledge they bring to our district and for their commitment to the families and children of our community.

The Corning School Board met in a special meeting Monday, January 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the board room with all members present. Resignations of Park Custodians Brooklynn Puckett, effective January 16, 2024 and Ronnie Jones, effective January 18, 2024 were approved. Next, the board selected CR Crawford Construction as the Construction Management Company for the upcoming new high school project. The board discussed possible dates for upcoming informative community meetings concerning the request for millage increase on the March ballot. There will be two meetings at Corning High School in February. Mrs. Woolard is scheduled to speak at the Corning Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on February 5. She will contact local mayors to see if they would like to host community meetings in their towns. Once the dates are finalized, Mrs. Woolard will publicize the dates and times in the Clay County Courier, through the school app, and social media sites. There being no further business, President Scobey adjourned the meeting.
LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host two public meetings Feb. 10 in northeast Arkansas to address plans for future renovations to Dave Donaldson Black River Wildlife Management Area and other waterfowl- focused areas. The first meeting will be 9-11 a.m. at the Pocahontas Junior High gymnasium at 2405 N. Park St. It will be followed by a meeting from 2-4 p.m. at the Nettleton High School Cafeteria at 4201 Chieftain Lane in Jonesboro.
