The Miss independence Pageant will be held at Wynn Park in Corning. The Little Miss division (ages 8-10) will be Sunday best and is set to start at 11:15 a.m. The Jr. Miss division (ages 11-14) is formal wear and will begin at 1:15 p.m. The Miss Independence division (ages 15-19) will also be formal wear and will begin immediately after the Jr. Miss division. An intriguing new film project is coming. Headley International Pictures have obtained the rights to produce a film based on the first book of the Gaslight Boys series written by John T. Wayne (the grandson of the famous western actor John Wayne, “The Duke”). The project is currently in the pre-production phase, looking for investors and locations. In October 2025, John T, Wayne and George Powers, one of the producers, plan to visit Tombstone for a book signing and to visit locations including Old Tucson and the Mescal Movie Set where Mr. Wayne’s grandfather” The Duke” made films. Other producers include Mark Headley and William D. Horton Jr.
Luke Blanchard, of Corning, AR, was named to the spring 2025 Dean’s List at the University of Central Arkansas.
The University of Central Arkansas congratulates more than 1,200 students who were named as Presidential Scholars.
Corning resident Kaitlin Elizabeth Francis, a senior Healthcare Administration major, has been named to the President’s List at Southern Arkansas University. Francis was one of 458 students who earned a 4.0 GPA for the spring 2025 semester.
The office of Central Methodist University Provost Rita Gulstad announced recently the students included on the Spring 2025 Dean’s List.
The PAC Dolphins swim team had a practice swim meet recently. The team and parents learned valuable information regarding swim meets and their procedures. Things learned were writing events on the kids, timing and starts-all items needed to have a successful swim team season. The practice meet was made up of return swimmers and some that have only practiced a few days. They are looking forward to a wonderful season.
June 2, 2025 The Corning School Board met on June 2, 2025 at noon in the District Office with all members present. The board approved the bid of $364,813 from Vaughn Excavating for the demolition of the high school buildings and a placeholder allowance of $942,580 for utility/ site work. The allowance was approved to ensure a timely transition from demolition to utility site work to minimize wait time between demolition and the commencement of utility work for the new buildings. Mrs. Woolard shared with the board that demolition is expected to begin the third or fourth week of June.
The University of Central Arkansas held fall commencement on Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, 2025, in the Farris Center on campus. Degrees and certificates were conferred from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; College of Business; College of Education; College of Health and Behavioral Sciences; College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and Graduate School.
