Members of the new weight room at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center received an inspiring fitness mural to encourage their efforts. The mural was painted on July 19 and 20 by Jennifer Prince, a K-6 art elementary art teacher in the Neelyville school district. Prince is beginning her 18 year in the district. She has been painting professionally for almost 20 years, painting murals, commissions and conducting painting classes. She has a professional Facebook page called Painted by Prince.

BRTC Career Coaches Visit Annual Conference

POCAHONTAS, AR - BRTC’s Career Coaches and Career Coach Supervisor recently attended the annual Career Coach Conference in Little Rock, hosted by the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Career and Technical Education. The purpose of this annual conference is to keep Career Coaches and other stakeholders up-to-date on the latest trends, learn about promising ideas, and network with other coaches as they constantly work to increase the odds of success for the students of the schools in which they’re attached.

THE POWER OF PRAYER

LaJeasta Branum recently broke her ankle in several places and her fibula below the knee. Her physician wants to wait until swelling recedes before making a decision about surgery. LaJeasta is hoping surgery will not be necessary and is in a great deal of pain currently. She requests prayers for pain relief and a quick recovery.

Rector Community Museum hosts Territorial Arkansas Exhibit

Rector, AR - Territorial Arkansas: The Wild Western Frontier, a traveling exhibit that tells the story of Arkansas Territory, will be displayed at Rector Community Museum, 310 Main Street, Rector, AR, on Thursdays - Sundays from 10 AM – 4 PM/ Sundays 1 PM – 4 PM]. Admission to the traveling exhibit is free and consists of 15 panels that explore the history of Arkansas Territory though the collections of the Arkansas State Archives and their branch archives, the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives in Powhatan and the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives in Washington.

Senior Wellness Center asset to community

The Corning Senior Wellness Center is a vital resource to Corning and its elderly population. It serves as an activity hub, as well as a nutrition center for area senior citizens. The center serves lunches to members every weekday and delivers meals to the homebound. Local residents 60 years and older enjoy the fellowship of other seniors and also engage in activities such as, playing cards, dominoes, pool, puzzles and other activities. With a donation to the center, anyone over 60 can order lunch to eat-in or carry-out by calling in advance. The menu for the next week is conveniently published on page 5. Utilizing the center helps increase its daily enrollment that in turn keeps its doors open for those who need it and its services.

THE POWER OF PRAYER

Lisa Malone requests prayers for 15-year-old Dakota Durbin. Dakota has been battling B Cell ALL Leukemia for 9 months. He is currently in remission but has so many other things going on that was caused from some of the chemo used on his Day 3 treatment. He had a severe case of pancreatitis that almost killed him. It left him with a huge pseudocyst that put weight on his blood vessels and arteries causing blood clots in his leg. He still can’t get up and walk without assistance and not for very long periods of time. He has a colostomy bag now because his intestines haven’t been working and doctors have said if they aren’t working within 6 months, he will have to have a transplant. Lisa reported he is not a candidate for surgery due to all he has going on within his body. He also has a gastrostomy tube and TPN that is his nourishment.
