CMS students receive lesson in Arkansas appreciation

Last week, the Corning Middle School students in Ms. Anna Bower’s eighth grade Arkansas History classes had an interesting and informative visit from lifelong Clay County resident, Rita Crafton. Mrs. Crafton is a Corning graduate and retired teacher of the Corning School District and thus, very knowledgeable of Arkansas. She visited with students discussing different places throughout the state. The eighth grade students were very attentive to what she presented to them and asked many questions about the content presented. As Mrs. Crafton told students, “Nature has provided us such wonderful places to see and experience, so why go elsewhere? We don’t have to spend our time out of state to enjoy our time.”

SRO Appreciation

February 15 is National School Resource Officer Day. We are blessed to have Micayla McClung as our new SRO at Corning Schools. Officer Mc-Clung has seven years in law enforcement having spent those years as a patrolman, a probation/parole officer with a specially court, and now as CSD’s School Resource Officer. She is married to Corning Chief of Police Blaine McClung and has four children who attend Corning Schools. When asked about why she chose law enforcement and a school resource officer she said she wanted to be a part of the community and to interact with students on a more personal level. Her goals for our schools are to interact with the students more frequently and to grow the DARE program at the middle school and high school campuses. We appreciate SRO Mc-Clung and want to wish her a happy National SRO Day! Thank you for being a part of our Bobcat Family!
