Sesquicentennial Snapshot

Celebrating 150 Years of the City of Corning & Clay County in 2023 History of The Bobcats With Lurora trimmed, Piggott humbled, Pocahontas scalped and Highland leveled and our Corning Bobcats headed for a 1973 championship, now if a fitting season to recall the beginning of football in our community. The photograph on the Courthouse Square portrays the squad of pioneer Bobcats at practice in the Fall of 1910.

There’s been a lot of hand-wringing in recent years about the death of local newspapers, those bastions of democracy and chroniclers of community. While the loss of any newspaper hurts the people they serve, residents of rural areas and small towns are hit especially hard when a newspaper shuts down.

Fall Festival at Overlook Park set for Oct. 7

Get ready for a day of fall fun and community spirit as the second annual Fall Festival at Overlook Park, sponsored by the Growing Minds Foundation, is held in Pocahontas on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event promises an excess of activities and attractions for families, all while supporting a noble cause.

State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK – Even though Arkansas has taken major steps to improve foster care over the past several years, the Division of Children and Family Services intends to do even better at recruiting foster families and providing services to children at a younger age. The division staff worked with educators, law enforcement, mental health professionals and non-profit organizations on a list of recommendations to better protect vulnerable children and strengthen families during times of crisis.
