Clay Co. Extension Office hosts Tree Walk

County Extension Agent, Stewart Runsick is presenting an informational Tree Walk at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott. The public is invited to put on their walking shoes and meet Saturday, November 4th at 9:30 a.m. at the visitor parking lot at 1021 West Cherry Street in Piggott. During the event there will be identification and discussion concerning 15 different species in Piggott. Participants will learn about the species’ history, origin, use and age. Some of the trees were most likely in Clay County during the Civil War and are over 150 years old. Some trees are native to Crowley’s Ridge and can only found in this area. The basics of early-onset Alzheimer’s

The National Institute on Aging defines Alzheimer’s disease as a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and an individual’s ability to think. The majority of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease are 60 and older, which can give the impression that the disorder is exclusive to the elderly. However, younger adults are not immune to the disease, and a small percentage of individuals under 60 could be diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.

So, did you treat, or were you tricked? Well, Halloween has come and gone, and the spirits have all returned to their crypts… we hope. So, how did all this scary stuff get started, anyway? Is it just an excuse to get dressed up in scary costumes and deviate from our normal boring lives (if your life is, indeed, boring)? By late September the merchandising begins black crepe paper strung everywhere, witches in cone shaped pointy hats, riding brooms, black cats, grossly carved pumpkins, figures in flying sheets, and vampires and every other creature of darkness that one can imagine.

The Arkansas Legislative Council (ALC) and ALC subcommittees convened this week. In these meetings, members received an update regarding the implementation of LEARNS, an update regarding a study of our state’s firearms laws, and approved funding to expand nurse training programs in the state.

Lord, lift us up for Your blessings today. We pray that You will anoint us with strength and self care today, tomorrow, and always. We pray that You will grace us with patience and wisdom and pray that You will encourage us throughout the day to take the correct steps to walk proudly.

Pee Wee semi-final games played . . .

Monday, Oct. 23, Pee Wee football semi-final games were played at Bobcat Stadium. The Gold Team faced the Gray Team at 6 p.m. with the Gold Team coming out the victor. At 7 p.m. the Black Team played the White Team with the Black Team being declared the winners.

An annular solar eclipse occurred on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, that crossed North, Central, and South America. It was visible in parts of the United States, Mexico, and many countries in South and Central America.
