Moser wins Clay County Spelling Bee

The Clay County Spelling Bee was held Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the Piggott Elementary library. When the final word was spelled Adalynn Moser was left standing as the Clay County Spelling Bee Champion. Cody Knight, of Piggott State Bank, presented cash awards to the winners, from left: Piggott eighth grade student Arwen Clary, second runner-up; Corning sixth grade student Adalynn Moser, spelling bee champion and Piggott fourth grade student Avia Taylor, first runner-up. Winners also received plaques from the Piggott School District.

Colts outrun Bobcats; 63-30

The Corning Bobcats traveled to face Rivercrest on Saturday, January 27 and lost in a battle by a score of 63-30. The end of the first quarter had the Colts and Cats neck and neck 9 - 7 and by the second quarter the Colts began racing away with a score of 37-16 at the half. The top scorer for Corning was Jayce Couch with 12 points. Luke Blanchard scored 5 points, Cannon Cummings provided 3 points, while Spencer Blanchard, Roman Davis, Seth Green and Reid McMasters each added 2 points.

Seniors “Get Real” Financial Management Program

Corning High School seniors participated in the “Get Real” program Wednesday, January 24, 2024, provided by Clay County Cooperative Extension FCS Agent Christin Holmes. The program is a hands-on experiential simulation that teaches young people about personal financial management.

Profiri gets paid

At last Tuesday’s Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER) subcommittee meeting, members considered a request from Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s office to move a $104,000 appropriation to her office’s extra help appropriation in order to cover the first six months’ salary for Mr. Joe Profiri, the governor’s new senior advisor.

Corning falls to Osceola; 81-58

The Bobcats faced a tough Osceola team at home on Thursday, January 25. The digit 22 seemed to be the number of the night for the Seminoles who scored 22 points each quarter with the exception of the 3rd quarter, when the Cats held them to 15 points. Osceola kept a slight lead with Corning behind 13 points at the half. Osceola continued to pull away through the last two quarters.
