Brockett Cemetery plans spring workday
The annual spring workday at Brockett Cemetery is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2024, weather permitting. Brockett Cemetery is located on Highway 115 between Pocahontas and Maynard (in the Brockett Community near Stokes).

State board approves waivers for Arkansas school districts moving to alternate calendars
Arkansas education officials on Wednesday voted to allow half the state’s public school districts to add time to each school day for the rest of the year to make up for January’s snow days. The shift from a traditional days-based calendar to an alternate hourly calendar comes as January’s severe winter weather highlighted the LEARNS Act’s practical elimination of alternative methods of instruction (AMI) days, which districts used in recent years to offer virtual instruction when schools were closed for weather, disease outbreaks or utility outages.
Couch selected to 3A-2 All Region Team
Corning Bobcat Jayce Couch was selected to the 3A-2 All Region Team during Regionals. Other players selected for the All Region Team were: Gosnell - Marcus Anderson Rivercrest -Fran Robinson- MVP, Jaden Young, Buddha Harris Osceola - Richard High, Jeriyan Long
Bobcats end season in 1st round of State Tournament; 60-47
The Corning Bobcats enjoyed a ticket to ride to the 3A State Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Elkins, Arkansas for the first time in 45 years. The Cats sparred against the McGehee Owls in a tight game of back and forth with McGehee ahead by 2 points, 27-25 at the half. The third quarter remained neck and neck going into the final quarter; 43-41 with the Owls ahead by 2 points. Corning collected 6 fouls in each of the 1st and 4th quarters, for a total of 15 foul calls during the game. Jayce Couch had 4 foul calls while Roman Davis fouled out in an effort to halt McGehee’s momentum. The Owls had a total of 7 fouls the entire game with Chris Jones #3 noted for fouling 4 times. McGehee took a foothold on the lead and defeated the Bobcats; 60-47.
